My name is Dustin and I’m a field services tech, with experience in networking, infrastructure and systems administration.
I haven’t always worked within IT. I had started out my adult career working within warehousing, gradually gaining experience on a variety of things ranging from standing up WMS systems to repairing machinery like forklifts, however I always had a passion for computers and problems solving so a few years ago I made the decision to break into IT and pursue my passions.
For a while I was pursing a formal education in computer science at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, on a flex basis, however after studying and attending classes for a few years I came to realize that software development wasn’t really my thing. Fortunately, I was able to land a role at VAR, providing technical support for things like SQL servers, networks, and access control systems. This introduced me to a wider variety of IT and in part with my homelab, I started to dive into things like Active Directory, infrastructure, networking and more, further solidifying my passion for IT and troubleshooting.
Fast forward to today, I work as a field services tech at an MSP where I support a wide range of client environments, including server racks, network equipment, endpoints, cabling, and more.
As for this blog? The community has always been helpful to me, so I wanted to give back and do what I can to not just help, but to teach others as well!
